Grade 1 Music, February 2025

In February, Grade 1 will be focusing on good breathing technique for singing. We are working on deep abdominal breathing to support good sound production. We are also beginning to work more intentionally on pitch matching, or making our voices sound like a note we hear.

In January, we began reading music notes, focusing on quarter notes and eighth notes. We also started to learn how to draw music notes. In February, we will be building on these skills to learn how to write rhythms. We will be writing rhythms given by a teacher or classmate, as well as making up our own rhythms to write down.

Our folk dance for the month of February is called Gallopede. This builds on many steps we have learned in previous folk dances; the new step we are learning this month is the Do-Si-Do.
